Building sovereign healthcare infrastructure from the ground up.
Northern Health Innovations was founded by a physician who saw healthcare technology failing the communities that needed it most — not for lack of will, but because the infrastructure was fragmented, foreign-controlled, and designed for vendor profit rather than patient care. We're building the alternative.
Deep tech, not contract-stitching.
Most healthtech companies integrate third-party tools and resell cloud services. We build healthcare infrastructure from the ground up — owning the stack: Canadian-hosted databases, in-house AI, and purpose-built clinical workflows. The result is lean, secure, and performant systems designed for real-world care delivery.
Built for
- Indigenous health organizations requiring data sovereignty and culturally informed care
- Regional health systems and hospitals seeking interoperability without vendor lock-in
- Community clinics and outreach teams that need modern tools without sacrificing control
- Regulated care environments where privacy, auditability, and data residency are non-negotiable
Privacy-first by architecture, not afterthought.
PHIPA- and PIPEDA-aligned controls, with SOC 2–aligned, audit-ready architecture. All platforms keep healthcare data under Canadian jurisdiction. We don't simply repackage foreign platforms — we build core infrastructure here, with Canadian and Indigenous teams.
PHIPA & PIPEDA compliant
Healthcare data protection built into every layer of the platform.
Canadian data residency
All data stored on Canadian infrastructure under Canadian law.
Audit-ready architecture
SOC 2–aligned controls with comprehensive logging and access management.
From clinical practice to infrastructure.
The Founding
Established to address critical gaps in healthcare technology after years of observing inefficiencies and data fragmentation in clinical practice.
Infrastructure Build
Built sovereign Canadian infrastructure from scratch — bare-metal servers, in-house databases, and AI systems running on hardware we control.
NUCP™ Initial Release (pilot)
Launched the Norhi Unified Care Platform with AI-assisted documentation, secure messaging, and PHIPA-compliant workflows.
Clinical Implementation
Beginning clinical use with healthcare partners, gathering real-world feedback to continuously improve our platforms.
Physician-led, technically grounded.
Dr. Victor Vien, MD, FRCPC
A Métis physician and former academic psychiatrist at the University of Toronto who left clinical practice to build the healthcare infrastructure he couldn't find. With deep expertise in telehealth, Indigenous mental health, and Linux systems architecture, Dr. Vien leads Norhi's technical development and strategic direction.
Deep infrastructure expertise: Linux, bare-metal, open-source systems
Unique perspective as a Métis physician
Experience in underserved and northern healthcare

Our commitment
"We are not a Canadian reseller of American technology. We are building sovereign healthcare infrastructure — here, with Canadian and Indigenous teams. As we expand — funding, hiring, how we locate ourselves — this commitment is non-negotiable."
Our architecture is designed to scale to other regulated markets and jurisdictions that value privacy, auditability, and local data control.
